| April 2008 Earth Days at the Zoo with the UALR Geology Club |
Carol and I quickly set up our display items and put out
our information fliers. The Zoo was already busy, and people were browsing our tables, and we answered their questions. The kids especially enjoyed the rocks and fossils on display. The UALR club brought a face painting kit and kid dig. They also had several beautiful gem stones for their raffle and rock candy to sell. The steady stream of youngsters kept them busy painting faces, and I think they enjoyed it as much as the kids. A little later Jim Schenebeck arrived, and in the afternoon Tom Sharp and Amy Robinson the geology professor from the UALR also showed up. |

Earth Days at the Zoo was a special event. Friday morning Ann and Mike Austin were waiting for us, and had already set up some items for display. The Zoo was busy in the early morning and the rain did not seem to discourage too many people, but it became cold and most people left, so around noon, we did too. Saturday turned out to be a beautiful warm and sunny day. Erin and Mike from the UALR Geology Club were already setting us when we arrived and George Gray Major one of our mambers was there too. |
Carol and I had brought our Genie to demonstrate cabbing,
but our tables were too far from the electrical supply. Later we decided
to move the Genie to a picnic table where our extension cord could reach.
It was set up about 25 feet from our booth, but many interested people stopped by to see what we were doing. The time passed quickly. It was a very rewarding experience and we all agreed to do it again next year. |

![]() Mike probably spent more time looking at our rocks than anyone, and I wondered what he would think of Tom Sharp's Collection. Carol talks to one of the happy youngsters and her mom. |
![]() The Kids really enjoyed getting their faces painted. |
![]() Soon Jim Schenebeck arrived, as the face painting continued. Our Genie sits quietly, since there was no electricity near by. Carol talks with George Gray Major, one of our volunteers, who sits to the far right. |

![]() Tom Sharp arrived in the afternoon, and immediately stepped in to greet guests an answer their questions as well as ours. We had a mineral on display that no one could identify, until Tom showed up. It was nice to get a break, and Carol and I went to the Safari Resturant and got something to eat. |
